For applicants who acquired Cat. A35kW before 31.12.2020*: after two years of unblemished driving practice ("klaglos" as per Art. 8 para. 6 VZV), restrictions will be lifted upon request, meaning you'll get the unrestricted Category A driving license without an exam.

*and for exceptional cases: acquisition of the Category A35kW learner's permit before 31.12.2020 and passing the practical exam by 30.06.2021 at the latest.

For applicants who acquired Cat. A35kW after 01.01.2021: after two years of unblemished driving practice ("klaglos" as per Art. 8 para. 6 VZV), the learner's permit for unrestricted Cat. A can be applied for. A practical exam is required.

Direct entry is only possible for:

• Learners in vocational basic training "Motorcycle Mechanic EFZ" who are trained by a Category A driving instructor
• Individuals trained on motorcycles in police courses
• Traffic experts as part of their training and continuing education

For any learner's permit application, it must not be older than 24 months and must be completed by a Swiss optician or doctor.

For applicants who acquired Category A35kW before 31.12.2020*, the license will be granted without an exam after 2 years of unblemished driving. *and for exceptional cases: acquisition of the Category A35kW learner's permit before 31.12.2020 and passing the practical exam by 30.06.2021 at the latest.

For applicants who acquired Category A35kW after 01.01.2021, a maneuver test and a practical exam are required.

If Category A 35kW was acquired without an exam based on the previous Category A1, a practical driving test (maneuver and practical exam) with a Category A vehicle must be completed.

To obtain the unlimited driving license, you must attend 1 further training course within the first 12 months. After the probationary period, your definitive driving license will be sent directly to you by the Road Traffic Office of your canton of residence.

For the driving test, motorcycle-specific safety equipment must be worn (helmet, clothing, gloves, boots).

Visual Acuity

Visual Field

Binocular Vision: Horizontal visual field at least 120 degrees. Extension to the right and left at least 50 degrees. Extension upwards and downwards at least 20 degrees. The central visual field must be normal up to 20 degrees. Monocular Vision: normal visual field with normal eye movement.

Double Vision

No restrictive double images.

Twilight Vision and Glare Sensitivity

No significant impairment of twilight vision. No significantly increased glare sensitivity.

No dependence. No traffic-relevant abuse.

• No psychological disorders with significant effects on realistic perception, information processing and evaluation, reaction capability, and appropriate behavioural control.
• No impairment of traffic-relevant performance reserves.
• No manic or significant depressive symptoms.

• No significant blood pressure anomaly.

• In case of diabetes mellitus, stable blood sugar control without traffic-relevant hypo- or hyperglycaemia must be present.
• No other metabolic diseases with significant effects on the ability to safely drive a motor vehicle.

No diseases with increased daytime sleepiness and no other diseases or limitations affecting the ability to safely drive a motor vehicle.

No malformations, diseases, paralysis, consequences of injuries or operations with significant effects on the ability to safely drive a motor vehicle that cannot be adequately corrected by assistive devices.
