Category B requirements
Your canton's road traffic office (Strassenverkehrsamt) provides the full regulations.
- 1 Learner's permit (Lernfahrausweis) from age 17
- 2 First-aid course (Nothelferkurs), max. 6 years old
- 3 Eye test at an optician
- 4 Theory test at the road traffic office (Strassenverkehrsamt)
- 5 Traffic course (VKU, 8 lessons) before the practical test
- 6 Under 20: practical driving test after at least 12 months with the learner's permit (Lernfahrausweis)

- Gesuch beim Strassenverkehrsamt – damit bekommst du deine FABER-Nummer
- Nothelferkurs, Sehtest und VKU vor der Theorieprüfung
- Für den VKU brauchst du deine FABER-Nummer – die bekommst du mit dem Gesuch
- Basistheorieprüfung: 55 Fragen, max. 17 Fehlerpunkte, inkl. VKU-Themen
- Danach bekommst du den Lernfahrausweis

What most people ask us.
Approximately how many driving lessons do I need?
This is individual and depends on prior experience and talent. After the trial lesson, we will honestly assess what you realistically need – we won't sell you unnecessary lessons.
How much does a driving lesson cost?
You can find current prices and packages on our pricing page. The starter package is particularly worthwhile for new customers.
Is there a free trial lesson?
Yes, the first driving lesson is free for new Category B students.
Where do the driving lessons start?
We recommend meeting points at train stations because they are closer to the test areas – this leaves more time for practice. A flexible pick-up service is also available.
Automatic or manual transmission?
Both are possible. Manual transmission is standard; if you prefer to learn on an automatic, let us know when registering.
What do I need before I can drive?
The first aid course, the passed theory test, and the learner driver's permit. You must complete the traffic awareness course (VKU) before the practical exam.
